Welcome to The Dun Cow

A traditional Village Pub & Kitchen in the heart of the village of Hornton, North Oxfordshire. Comfortable, relaxed, welcoming and informal, we offer a range of cask ales, lagers, ciders and a carefully chosen wine list, most of which are available by the glass.

Been walking or gardening all morning? Just leave your boots by the door and warm your feet by the fire. What about the kids? We think that they should be welcomed, not just tolerated.

Just want a quiet drink, not a three course meal? Well, that’s fine by us but we do also serve unique and outstanding food. We buy superb ingredients directly from farmers & producers (mostly within a 30 mile radius of the pub) and we cook them in a way that lets their freshness and quality shine through. We’re also serious about seasonality and our menus are completely changed every month to reflect all that is freshest and at its best right now.

May’s menu sees the return of some of our most popular dishes.

The Asparagus season is now upon us and we’re getting deliveries of Cornish Sole (Megrim) straight from the day boats of the South West. Fried in butter with Brown Shrimps and Capers, it’s one of the best and simplest ways to enjoy this great fish.

Those looking for a meat-free meal will welcome the return one of our most popular starters – Green Pancakes with Lime Butter – and the Herb & Olive Stuffed Tomatoes shouldn’t be missed either.

This month’s Asian choice is Satay Beef with Squash and Kaffir Lime Leaves, spicy and authentic with red Thai curry paste and peanuts.

Finally, all of May’s puddings are back by popular demand including Paolo DiCanio’s Tiramisu, Banana Fritters in Sesame Batter, Lemon Tart and Chocolate Brownies, so remember to leave room for dessert
